The Summer Reading Challenge Starts Today!


Reading Challenge


Ages 12 and under are invited to participate in our Summer Reading Challenge!

Collect your Reading Logs from the Youth Services Department starting June 1st– July 21st.

Your Reading Log contains activities and questions. Complete all the activities by July 28th to be entered in a drawing for special End of Summer Grand Prizes

Bring your Reading Log back to the library each week beginning on June 10th and receive a special prize for keeping up with your reading. Receive an extra raffle prize entry for completing all 7 weeks!

**Weekly incentives are given while supplies last.

In order to provide an enjoyable library experience for all, we regret that groups of 10 or more must make arrangements to attend the following programs in advance. Group supervisors must be with children at all times. Thank You!

Storytime Programs


Let’s Get Together-a story experience that begins with age appropriate stories for the little ones and evolves into a program for older siblings to enjoy as well.

10 am Horse Tales Literacy Program
All Ages. Join us for our kick-off event featuring our special guests from the Horse Tales Literacy Project. Hear stories about horses and meet the horse ambassadors.
3pm Building Dreams with Dr Diana
Ages 6 & up. Inventions, experiments, innovation...it all starts with a dream. Join Dr Diana as she shares hands on projects to get young minds  dreaming about science.

June 13th
10am Mad Hatter Tea Party
Ages 6 & under. Bring your own outlandish hat or make one to take home. Features stories, treats, games, and more.
3pm Rainforest Rhapsody
Ages 6 & up. Enjoy Ballet D’Esprit  as they perform with their feathered  friends.

June 20th
10am Candyland Live
Ages 6 & under. Become a life-size game piece in our live version of the popular children’s board game.
3pm Angry Birds Live
Ages 6 & up. Come help the birds get their eggs back from those mean green pigs, featuring crafts and games.

June 27th
10am Whoo’s There?
Ages 6 & under. A special event featuring a puppet show, stories and crafts all about owls.
3pm Meet the Owls
Ages 6 & up. Join our special guests from the Florida Animal Hospital as they tell you all about these special birds. The Youth Services Department will be collecting supply donations for the Florida Animal Hospital, please check with the YS desk for a list.

 July 11th
10am Puppies in PJs
All Ages. Featuring the Space Coast Therapy Dogs for a special program all about dogs.
3pm Fairytale Theater
All Ages. Our Teen Advisory Group brings fairytales to life with their puppet show.

July 18th
10am Wild and Out of This World Things
Ages 6 & under. Bring your cameras to meet one of the Wild Things from Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are and hear more out of this world and wild stories.
3pm Martian Mania
Ages 6 & up. Join us with our special guests from NASA as we learn all about Mars.

July 25th
10am Ronald McDonald Magic
All Ages. Do you believe in Magic? The clown is back for an event filled with magic and wonder.
3pm Night Carnival with Twinkles the Clown
Ages 6 & up. It’s time for fun and games with Twinkles the Clown featuring ball tosses, bounce houses, and more.

June 5th 3pm Zombies vs Unicorns
Are you Team Zombie or Team Unicorn? Join us for special games, crafts, and activities based on the YA book Zombies vs Unicorns.

June 12th 3pm Author Charlie Carlson and Weird Florida
Do you love urban legends and spooky myths like the ghost at Ashley’s or Spook Hill? Weird Florida Author Charlie Carlson explains the myths, legends, and extremely weird facts about our state.

June 19th 3pm Party Like a Mad Scientist
Can you laugh like a mad scientist? Can you sing the Elements song better than Daniel Radcliff? Grab your white lab coats for this special program featuring games, activities, and maybe even some slime.

June 26th 3pm Spies Like Us Debriefing
Your assignment is to participate in our very own spy games. Learn about fingerprinting, try our laser beam challenge, and learn how to create your own secret identity.

July 3rd 3pm Hunger Games Survival Challenge
If you were a Tribute in the Games, could you survive? Find out at this challenging event and learn some survival tips and tricks.

July 10th 3pm Geektastic Summer Crafts
Know the meaning of Otaku? Are you a fan of Big Bang Theory? Love the Geektastic YA novel? Let out your inner geek as we create crafts based on popular geeky favorites from video games and comic books to pop culture,

July 17th 3pm Out of this World Crafts
Do you “live long and prosper” or rely on the force? Blast off with us as we boldly go where no young padawan has gone before with trivia, crafts, and maybe some Jedi mind tricks.

July 24th 3pm Wreck this Book: Journal Writing for Teens 
Inspired by author/illustrator turned guerilla artist Keri Smith’s popular series of books, this craft project will prompt you to think beyond the pen to find great ways to be inspired. 

Special Events

Stuffed Animal Sleepover
June 19th

Bring a stuffed animal (please not the child’s favorite) to the library for our Stuffed Animal Sleepover. After you register your stuffed friend, we will keep the animal overnight at our library and take pictures of all the mischief they get into after hours.

Stuffed Animals may be collected at the library after June 20th. Any stuffed animals left after June 30th will be donated.

Pictures will be posted on our library Flickr and Facebook pages and will also be shown at the beginning of the June 26th 7pm Family Storytime. 

Bowling for Books
July 21st            2-4pm
Palm Bay Shore Lanes and the Friends of the Libraries of Palm Bay will be sponsoring a Bowling for Books event. Tickets are $10 per person which includes shoes. Purchase Tickets at the Circulation Desk.
